The center for marine research and coastal protections is located at the island Drejø in Sydfyn, Denmark.
Inspired by the traditional courtyyard typology, the circular shaped marine research center accomodates an auditorium as well as office spaces and meeting spaces creating a more transparent environment. The research center also facilitates outdoor public areas that connects the building with its surroundings. The housing units accommodate for more privacy.
To protect against the risk of flooding in connection with storm surges, the buildings are rasied on plinths to keep the buildings free of flooding while they´re withdrawn from the coastline.
